Greed was once an ordinary spirit, overlooked by the upper class he longed to enter. Everything changed when an expedition into the abandoned lands of Monulu led him to a forgotten chamber overflowing with treasure. He returned home wealthier than most spirits would see in a lifetime — and the gates that had ignored him finally opened.
He never forgot how differently they treated him once he had something to offer. Each successful quest fed a hunger that only grew, until owning treasure was no longer enough, and he built a kingdom of jewel-studded towers to hold what he had taken.
Even a thriving kingdom couldn't satisfy him — every vault he filled only reminded him of the one still empty. He sent his finest warriors into the ruins beneath Monulu chasing a rumored golden core said to hold the desires of every soul that had touched it. Only one warrior returned, and he touched the core anyway. It fed on desire rather than granting it, and it transformed him into something more powerful, and less human, than any ruler before him.
He sits on a throne of gold today, still certain the next treasure will finally be enough. It never is.
"Enough is whatever remains beyond my reach."
